More Information About Our Turkeys
Our turkeys spend their first weeks in a warm brooder while they grow and feather out. Once ready, they move outdoors where they are raised on pasture with shelter and plenty of room to roam. They are fed organic grain along with surplus fruits and vegetables from our garden. Turkeys are naturally curious birds and spend their days exploring, foraging, and supervising whatever farm activity happens to be underway.
Because they live active lives outdoors, they develop a more natural body shape than the oversized commercial birds most people are used to. They still have good breast meat but remain strong, mobile birds—able to run, roam, and occasionally take short flights. The result is flavorful meat and a memorable Thanksgiving meal. Our birds are processed whole, with the neck attached so you receive the entire bird—perfect for making rich stock or gravy—and the neck can be easily removed before cooking if you prefer.
We raise black-feathered turkeys for their hardiness and ability to thrive in this environment. Because of their darker feathers, you may notice a few small pin feathers on the processed bird. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect flavor or cooking. They can be removed before cooking if you wish or simply left as they are.
Buying Turkeys from Never Dull Farm
Maine has specific guidelines around poultry processing, so we want to explain how it works here. When you place a pre-order, you are reserving a share of a live turkey before processing. The birds are raised here on our farm and processed on-site by a licensed mobile processor. Your deposit reserves your bird, and the remaining balance is due at pickup.
Fresh turkeys are available for pickup a few days ahead of Thanksgiving. Each bird is labeled “Not for Sale” and is intended for your household and personal use. This approach allows us to stay small-scale, work with a local processor, and continue raising food the way we believe it should be—while sharing it with our community.
